Single-family residential customers are entitled to four bulky item/clean-ups per a rolling 12-month period (scheduled no less than eight weeks apart).
Choose one of the following service options to get started with your clean-up.
Extra bulky item/clean-ups can be arranged for a fee. Please ensure that the bags or bulky items are at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
Additional garbage, bulky, or e-waste items can be collected for a fee. A special type of collection bin is required for construction and demolition materials such as dirt, sod, cement, rock, and brick.

Follow these guidelines for items included and not included in the clean-up bags.
SMALL E-WASTE: Place in a discardable box or bag and place next to the clean-up bags for collection.
HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES: Place alkaline and lithium batteries in a clear, zipper-lock style bag next to the bags but not in the gutter. Please tape terminals on all lithium, 6-volt and 9-volt alkaline batteries.
SCRAP METAL: Items (less than 30lbs.) can also be placed in the recyclable container side of your blue recyclables split cart.
YARD TRIMMINGS: Grass clippings, leaves and tree stumps less than 16” in diameter and length can also go in your green yard trimmings cart.
The following items will NOT be collected as part of your clean-up service:
Commonly disposed of items include: bulky items (less than 75-pounds each), housewares, packaging materials (Styrofoam® blocks, large boxes), non-recyclable glass, paper and plastics, small rugs & mats, shoes, clothing, toys (that cannot be donated), construction and demolition debris (excluding concrete, dirt, brick and rock) and wood (treated wood waste – wood that has been treated with a chemical preservative is considered hazardous waste and is NOT allowed)
Contact Milpitas Sanitation to arrange your bulky item/clean-up service. We will deliver two (2) 1.5-cubic yard bags to your residence.
Open the bags in the street curbside. THE BAGS MUST BE AT CURB FOR COLLECTION. (When full, they may be too heavy to move.)
Fill your bag curbside twenty-four (24) hours before your scheduled pick up day. All items must fit within the bags and not protrude.
Commonly disposed of items include: housewares, packaging materials (Styrofoam® blocks, large boxes), non-recyclable glass, small rugs & mats, shoes, clothing, & toys (that cannot be donated).
Fill up to fourteen (14) 32-gallon bags and place them curbside up to twenty-four (24) hours before your scheduled clean-up day. All items must fit within the bags and not protrude.
• The bags or bulky items must be at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
• Do not place bags or bulky items near obstructions and move vehicles away for collection access.
HAZARDOUS WASTE HAS ITS PLACE. Hazardous waste does NOT belong in any Milpitas Sanitation cart, bin or bag.
Items too large to fit in the provided clean-up bags cannot be collected through the standard service.
Set up to three (3) large/bulky items at the curb for collection.
Keep items away from obstructions to allow easy access for collection.
Follow these guidelines for items included and not included in the large bulky item pickup.

• Refrigerator or freezer doors must be removed or taped shut
• One (1) electronic waste item such as a computer, printer, television, large microwave, and similar items can be set out for collection instead of one (1) large/bulky item.
• Concrete
• Dirt
• Brick
• Rock
• Treated wood waste.
Treated Wood Waste (TWW) is derived from wood that has been chemically preserved to protect against insects and decay.
This includes products like fence posts, sill plates, landscape timbers, pilings, guardrails, and decking.
As of January 1, 2021, TWW is classified as hazardous material and must be disposed of properly.
Before throwing items away, consider reusing, donating or recycling them first.
